Sigismund Part 2

I have made good progress on my model of Sigismund Emperor's Champion.

For most games he will be either a Company or Chapter Champion.

The armor at this point is pretty much done, now it is time to work on the cape.

The Gore on the head was made using Tamiya clear red plus black and two hairs off my head.

Chaptermaster D'Arquebus in MK2

Here is an idea I got last week

Using the Max-Mini steam knight head with Helbrechts body seemed the perfect way to represent the Chaptermaster.

Master D'Arquebus has a Deamonhammer gifted to him by the Inquisition who he has had dealings with for a long time.

Sigismund Emperor's Champion

While working on finishing a few of the previous models I got hit with Inspiration.

Using the Mk3 Master of the Arsenal and an Iron Warriors head I could make the baddest Emperors Champion ever known ,Sigismund with the decapitated head of a Iron Warrior in his hand.

Santa brought me a new photo-studio

He mostly got me socks and old navy shirts, but He did manage to leave a couple of really cool presents.

One was getting my old Pentium 4 machine totally upgraded to a quad core motherboard with all the bells and whistles.

The other was the portable photo-studio I have taken a new picture of the apothecary to compare

The first was with the computer paper and single lamp method

The second is with the studio with twin lamps and diffuser

I still need to play with it a bit to get the optimal placements for both the mini and lights
but I think it is a definite improvement.

Imperial Fists Apothecary part2

Here is Apothecary Regis further along.

I have added battle damage and a nice freehand of a winged heart and a Templar cross on his knees.

The metallics have received washes but they need highlighting.

Imperial Fists Apothecary

I had this great old model that I picked along the way.

An Apothecary with chainsword.

He actually has little hearts on him,

I do not know if he is rare or not but I cannot find him anywhere on the GW site.

Every once and a while I will do a member of the Command squad this is the first in progress.

He is the Apothecary Regis first companies top medic

He also has terminator honors so he can be outfitted in the same style armor as his captain.

Imperial Fists Sternguard Captain(Sergeant)

My force is a little unique.

Since it is all 1st company my Sternguard units have multiple sergeants in them.

They are the Vets Sergeants that accompany other squads throughout the chapter.

So this guy will be the model that would be in charge of them, a Master Sergeant if you will.

I always though the Master of Recruits model looks like he would be much more at home in a unit of Sternguard,he carries their modified bolter.

That is the model I am using represent Sergeant Wagner in smaller games he will be the captain.

In Larger Games when I field the Chapter Master he will be a sergeant.

Imperial Fists Vanguard Vet Dimetry

This will be a Vanguard Vet without jumpack.

He is rough around the edges with stubble on his head and beard.

I need to refine the highlights a bit more and finish his helmet

I am painting the backpack separately but at the same time to keep it uniform

Imperial Fists Scout Sergeant Tobias

This will be the Tellion Stand in.

I will eventually paint the rest of my scouts but he was a one off for now.

The freehand is simple on him a fist on one side and a Sgt skull on the other

Imperial Fist Sternguard Melta

Here is a cool guy that makes short work of tanks.
I went a little on the heavy side and have quite a bit of touching up to make the battle damage work.

See what I mean by TOO Much looks more like camo.

but that is because the highlights on the chips need work.

I also have been working on Sergeant Tobias

Sternguard Mk6 part 2

I have just about finished the Vet.
I named him Brother Thonio

I used the tool in the previous post to do the battle damage.

Still need to base him.

I have also started work on the Melta gunner who is basecoated and awaiting the metallics.

Imperial Fist Sternguard Veteran Mk6

This is probably my favorite Sternguard sculpt, the one wearing alot of mk6 pieces on his suit.
I decided to go with that theme and gave him one of my heresy backpacks
He still needs battle damage and highlighting and mild OSL on his eyes.

Brother Nero

This is a model that I like quite a bit.

I went a little laurel crazy on him,he is wearing one has one on his knee and another on his power fist.

You could say he is a hero among heroes and if they made action movies in the 41 millennium, you could bet the most popular would be about Brother Nero.

His name is thrown about as a possible successor to Master Lexandro himself.
Sadly this is the last of my Forgeworld Shouldpads, for now I will be working on painting up my Vet squads.

Battle Damage Tips

I was asked a few times on how I did the battle damage on my Imperial Fists.

It is a variation on the sponge method using a different tool.

I love the look of sponge painted battle damage, but using a sponge on a mini tends to end up being overkill.

I am on the lookout for a tool that will do a similar job but on a smaller scale.

Right now I am tring out this sculpting tool I found in a package of cheap clay scuplting tools.

It looks like a cross between a toolbrush and a pipe cleaner(Which I want to try out if I can find one).

The tool has many small nylon threads that seem to do a good job of making sparse random patterns.

Now on the the method

For lighter colored armors(White/Yellow/Orange)

I use a mix of Charadon Granite and Dark Flesh(3:1)

For darker colors I use a Mix of the Basecoat and Charadon Granite(3:1)

The I use the tool to make a FEW and I cannot stress a few marks on the armor.

If you go overboard it will look like camouflage.

I put a few marks on the greaves,Boot-tips,and a random mark or two on a shoulder pad and arm.

I also make sure the top rear portion has a few scratches where he would be ducking under rubble and some of it snagging his pack.

Then I carefully highlight underneath each scratch with Bleached Bone.

The highlight should not be the same size as the scratch and sometimes only a pinprick dot of highlight is all you need.

On one or two of my larger chips I will paint a tiny hint of boltgun metal in the middle.

Imperial Fists Sternguard Vet Sarge

While painting my terminators I had this guy all prepped ready to start painting.

So as I was doing the last terminator I was also basecoating this guy.

He is in the same style as my Terminators but with a Templar cross.

Fluff states that the first company were called Templars and I like to show that with some Black Templar iconography on his knee.

Imperial Fists Chainfist Pt 3

I am almost finished with Brother Lucen, just fine touches and basing to go on him.

I have finished the 5 Imperial Fists with a really nice Brother I just modeled with lots of Laurels, very Heroic he would of made an excellent Ultramarine.

I am also painting up a Sternguard Sergeant at the same time.
